The extension of the motorway A 281 passes directly the area of the steel factory Bremen. To avoid any disturbance of the motorway traffic, a roofing of the slag dump was planned with decisive contribution of the DS-Plan energy management team. Special requirement of the construction arose from the high temperature of the slag. To support the integral development process with the architect, the energy transport processes within the enclosure were examined in detail with regard to the heating up of the roof construction. The enclosure was rebuilt as a simulation model and the time process of cooling down of the slag as well as the heating up of the ceiling cover and the structure in typical operating circumstances was calculated. The analyses showed that only a steel construction with external structure is possible to realise.
