The terminal facades were originally planned similar to the existing building. Together with the Architect DS-Plan was able to convince the client to chose a more open optic for the terminal facade. An integrated solution was developed in which the facade profile functions as well as as the girder structure : a static optimised, modern and filigree solution. The linking "back-bone" of the complex is the aircraft docking zone. To preserve the charter hall and to allow a later extension with three new buildings towards the east, it swings to the west at the northern end. The building blocks placed across form structural intervals, ensuring that the various architectural elements have a common framework. This provides an urban planning concept without predetermining the future development.
Terminal 2 is designed as a spacious and naturally lit hall. Its large curving roof contains the departure hall with the stacked shopping mall as well as restaurant and visitor levels in one spatial unit. Form and construction of the roof are based on an aircraft wing. This dynamically formed steel construction stands in deliberate contrast to the monolithic building blocks. So this roof construction is light and economic in spite of its span of 62 m. Roof lights provide the required day-lighting of the hall. The steelwork remains painted and visible, showing the full architectural quality of the structure.
