Together with the architects, DS-Plan developed and evaluated the new energy concept for the spa in Constance considering the ecological and economical aspects. The concept is based on the use of the thermal spring which provides water for the pools and the showers and also, by using the heath pump, covers the main part of the heating energy requirement of the bath. The combination of the cogeneration unit and the absorption heat pump turned out to be the most ecological and economical efficient solution. In the further planning process this will be realised as a research project together with ZAE Bayern and afterwards operated by the public services of Constance. The essential tool for developing the concept was a thermal building simulation that helped analysing the sources of the main energy consumption during the typical operation of this spa.
